Review: KULI at the CeMAT 2018 in Hanover

This year KULI Hebezeuge - Helmut Kempkes GmbH looks back to an even more successful exhibition as it was in 2016 already, as it took place parallel to the big Hannover Messe again. As this was designated to be the world's leading trade show for industrial technologies we are more than convinced that we have come to the right place with our well-known and well proven brand, being one of the world's leading family owned companies in the lifting device business.

Customized solutions are getting more and more in the focus of the intralogistics customers. The industry is looking for technologies, which fit to a 100 % perfect into their manufacturing or storing processes in order to come to uninterruptible, stabile and safe procedures. At the same time however, the demands for reasonable prices are still mandatory.

We meet all these demands ever since by creating essential standard components, which can be arranged in manifold ways, that you will always be able get a unique product for manageable expenditures. As complete manufacturing processes are made in-house, motors, gears, drums, control systems etc. included, we have both under own control: Quality and delivery times. As most standard components are on stock, we are well known for quick supplies, This applies to new equipment but more than ever, if it comes to wear or spare parts, which are predominantly needed rather urgent.

Currently we are planning a large gantry crane installation, which has to transfer extensive and heavy stainless steel components to different levels in an outside area. Therefore we have to install two complete cranes, handing over the goods safely in-between. At the same time, trucks will cross the runways to load / unload material and we have to make sure, that they will be detected by the cranes. This will be implemented by special laser monitoring devices, especially designed for the extreme outside conditions, having a two-step application, depending on the type of danger and the travelling speed of the system: Warning only or safety stop.

All this is done in collaboration with our customers. They rely on KULI's experiences with feasible and solid solutions to secure a trouble-free process. The KULI know-how with lifting equipment reaches back until 1922, where the first electric tackles have been developed in Remscheid / Germany - an industrial area close to the Rhine River. Meanwhile our expertise is requested in more than 120 countries worldwide on all continents, the Antarctic included, where we run an equipment in a Research station somewhere in the perpetual ice.

We are pleased to have welcomed customers from all over the world to discuss their requirements with us. We had the pleasure to show some interesting products from our extensive scope of supply, where the chance is given to find solutions for every lifting application. Among other exhibits we presented the hoist, which is used for the above gantry crane project. It is a 20 ton hoist with a high lifting speed - made by KULI.

The All-Rounder Double Girder Bridge Crane with two rotating crabs

It is about 53 tons heavy and yellow. It carries loads up to 16 tons and has a span of 40 meters. In February 2017 it was delivered from Remscheid to a customer next to Cologne. The bridge crane was designed and manufactured by KULI Hebezeuge - Helmut Kempkes GmbH, based in Remscheid.

KULI Hebezeuge - Helmut Kempkes GmbH manufactures, among other things, electric wire rope hoists with a load capacity of 1 to 200 tons. These hoists are used in various crane and conveyor systems. Complete single- and double-girder cranes, suspension cranes, console- and gantry cranes are part of our scope of supply as well. Providing additional components, e.g. magnetic systems, grippers and vacuum devices complete our spectrum. We also supply electric chain hoists for loads up to 5 tons. They are mainly used for maintenance purposes within industrial and craft trades.

A real specialty is the manufacture, supply and assembly of bridge- and gantry cranes with rotating crabs. These are manufactured as double girder cranes with spans of up to approx. 70 meters.

The above bridge crane with a total capacity of 16 tons is used, among other things, for the handling of structural steel mats and reinforcing cages with a length of up to 25 meters. It runs on a newly constructed outdoor railway with a total length of 73 meters and a span of 40 meters.

All components are produced in our two production facilities in Remscheid, in particular, steel construction, control engineering, electrical installation, the manufacture of electric wire rope hoists and wheel bogies. Components such as the motors, gearboxes and rope drums are parts from our modular system. These individual parts are manufactured in a controlled manner and assembled according to their requirements for the particular application. This procedure offers the user the decisive advantage that he can count on the shortest delivery times even in the case of spare parts. Every operator of a crane will appreciate this.

The special feature of this crane is that two rotating crabs with two 4 ton hoists each are used. These hoists can be controlled individually, together and for one or both crabs. With the choice of grippers or the individual operation with hooks, the most diverse transport tasks can be realized, and the materials can be optimally positioned with a total rotation angle of 240 °.

Together with the customer, the requirements were analyzed for this transport task, with the aim of being able to use a specially adapted crane for the fast and safe transport of the materials. A further point was the configuration in terms of operability and maintenance.

Thus, the crane was equipped with frequency converters in long and cross travel as well as in the turntables. This allows a calm and fast transport of the suspended load. The travel speeds were set at a specific speed of up to 32 m / min during the cross- and up to 63 m / min during the long travel. By means of a radio remote control in belly type with 3 master switches and 12 additional selection options, all movements can be performed with highest accuracy. A second radio remote control ensures the permanent availability.

The crane has a maintenance walkway along one of the 40-meter-long girders as well as fully accessible turntables. The control cabinets with air-conditioning have been service-friendly installed on the walkway and on the rotating crabs.

The two girders each with a length of 40 meters and the two rotating crabs with an over-width of 4.5 meters reached a total transport length of 110 meters.

In the meantime, the assembly was completed by our KULI service personnel and the crane was released for operation in due time after a successful acceptance test.

KULI protects the environment

Taking an active social responsibility has always been one of the company's maxims, KULI Hebezeuge - Helmut Kempkes GmbH. We are continuously focusing on the subject of "sustainability" with the objective of reconciling environmental and socio-social responsibility with business interests.

With our products and services we create an economic and ecological added value for our customers and thus also for the environment. We not only focussing on locally practiced environmental protection - we also want to make an active contribution to the energy supply and environmental protection through further improvements in energy and resource efficiency.

This involves a holistic approach: from conserving resources such as water or electricity, through the reduction of emissions up to the prevention of waste and waste recycling, taking into account environmental aspects with regard to the company-wide "compliance" regulations.

In order to implement this goal quickly, we were working together in a regional cooperation with other companies. The project was supported, amongst others, by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the three "Bergische major cities", the Economic Development Agency and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

In order to be finally certified as an "ÖKOPROFIT" operation, we have installed an environmental program tailor-made to our company, which demonstrably leads to improvements in the life cycle assessment and to the saving of natural resources. We are convinced that we can make a further important contribution in the sense of all.
